It was surreal. There was no other way to really describe it. A week ago, Kurt had been back at McKinley after transferring back there with a heart full of hope that things would be better, and now, in a weird twist of fate, he was back at Dalton, back in the blazer, lying on a Dalton crested blanket in the grounds of the private school on his stomach, arm wrapped securely around his boyfriend's belly as he gazed into his eyes. Just a few moments before, they had both been lying on their backs watching the clouds pass in the blue sky, but then Kurt had rolled over onto his stomach to kiss Blaine slowly and lethargically. Now he was just watching him, the tips of his fingers on his other hand sweeping over some fading yellowing bruising on Blaine's temple and cheek. It had been a week since the injuries occurred; injuries that should never have damn well happened.
"You're my hero, you know that?" he told him. Maybe it was cheesy, but it was true. The McKinley prom had been such a rollercoaster of emotions. Bad, very bad, worse, even more worse, amazing, beautiful, hopeful, and then terrifying. After the ballot fixing to elect Kurt Prom Queen, he had been mortified, but then Blaine stepped into catch him just when he felt like he was about to fall. If only it was the last time Blaine had to play White Knight that evening. The result was under Kurt's fingertips, and the biggest reason why Kurt Hummel again - and for good this time - washed his hands of William McKinley High School and went back to Dalton with his man. As far as he was concerned, this was how it was meant to be.
